SSG Brian Freeman Scholarship 2010

The Second Dragoons Foundation is proud to have made another contribution to the SSG Brian Freeman scholarship fund in 2010.

SSG Freeman was killed in combat in Iraq with the 3rd ACR. The SSG Freeman scholarship was established by SSG Freeman’s family to provide college funding for one student per year who graduates from Freeman’s former high school and writes the best essay concerning what our country or military means to them.

SSG Freeman’s memory lives on through his family’s dedication to this scholarship and we are proud to be associated with this effort.

EEMSDF Sends Care Packages to 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment

The founders of the 2nd Dragoons Foundation served in the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Germany during the end of the Cold War. The unit has been renamed the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment and is deploying to Afghanistan.

In support of the unit, the son of one of our founders will conduct a care package drive to supply the troopers of G Company with needed goods. The effort is being undertaken by a group of Houston high schoolers led by Daniel Farley, and we appreciate their effort for the second year in a row.

G Co. is at FOB Ramrod/COPAZ somewhere near Kandahar. See the picture below of the colors being unfurled in Afghanistan. Please put these cavalrymen in your prayers. Toujours Pret!

EEMSDF Contributes to Houston Care Package Drive

The EEMSDF contributed $420 to ship care packages collected by Daniel Farley and friends in Houston, TX. The teens collected care package materials at school over the week of Veteran’s Day, then stuffed the collections into approximately 115 shoe boxes (each quite full).

The care packages are headed to C Company, 5-20th Infantry BN, 2d IN Division. C Co is at a remote base in Iraq with no Army amenities.

The efforts of Farley and his friends are proof to the men of 2/20 2ID that we appreciate their work, courage, and sacrifice for our nation.

Lion Fund

Lion Fund
• While we will continue our traditional efforts of direct aid to cavalrymen and their families, we are now embarking on a new project and are asking for your assistance.
• Our contacts in the military have introduced us to the issue of Iraqis in need of assistance when they come to the U.S. to settle. These are Iraqis who have risked their lives and the lives of their families over the last 5 years in order to help U.S. cavalry forces perform their mission to create a free, peaceful and prosperous Iraq. In some cases these Iraqis have lost relatives and their homes and remain targets, and while there are some programs to help bring them to the U.S., there are few programs to help them financially once they arrive.
• So we are raising funds to help them with their transitions in the U.S. We have vetted and will continue to vet each candidate to ensure they are deserving of aid. We also operate as a no-expenses entity, so whatever donation you make will be passed entirely and directly to the identified recipients. In addition, we are a registered 501(c)3, so your donation is tax-deductible.

• If you choose to contribute, you can mail a check made out to the E.E. Mixon Second Dragoons Foundation to our treasurer at:

250 lbs of “Care” Packages Shipped to Troops Overseas

The EE Mixon Second Dragoons Foundation has shipped approximately 250 lbs of “care” packages to troops stationed overseas. This activity is part of our overall mission to improve the lives of troopers and their families during this difficult time of multiple and/or extended deployments.

The EEM2DF Awards 4 Partial Scholarships

Inspired by the Freeman scholarship, this year we are awarding 4 partial college scholarships either to soldiers who have served in one of the cavalry regiments or the children or siblings of those who have served. In one case a soldier had promised his sister that he would help her pay for college, and after learning that he was recently killed in action we are offering her financial assistance in his name.
